An open letter to Dunbar Rovers NPL members from First Grade Coach Will Cullen

It’s with a heavy heart that I write this letter. After 6 years with Dunbar I have made the decision to step down from my position as First Team Coach. This decision has not been an easy one and is not something I have just decided on. I have thought about this for a while and I feel that this decision is in the best interest of me as a coach and for my family and also the best interest for the club as they go forward on their exciting journey.

It’s been an amazing 6 years and I am eternally grateful to the club for allowing me to become part of the family. Not only have I coached good teams and players, but I have met some amazing lifelong friends along the way. Dunbar is more than a club to me and it always will be. I want to thank Peter Hennessy for his insane motivation to keep this amazing club going, for his drive, enthusiasm and ongoing support and also the other committee members from Quintin to Matt to Pedro to Ger and Marco, these people are the heroes of this club keeping it running day to day behind the scenes with no thanks, so thank you to all of the committee for their support over the last few years.

The club’s journey has just begun and there are very exciting times ahead. The youth is in great hands and the club has all the right foundations to become a success over the next few years at NPL level. This season has been unreal. As the only non-paying club in the competition for the last two years, we have more than punched above our weight. From winning Champions of Champions, to getting promoted, and playing our first game at State League level, I have loved every second. All of the players this year have given every inch of what they have to the club and I want to thank them for not just this year but for the last number of years and more importantly for their friendship and trust in me and each other. We have always played good football, we have always stuck together and we have always done the club proud.

I will be watching the club very closely as a fan from now on and I am very excited about the next steps of this clubs great journey. I wish the club nothing but the best for the future and I want to thank everyone again for their support over the last few years.

WILL CULLEN
